EUROPEAN DIRECTIVE 94/27/EC - 'The Nickel Directive'
Historical background to the directive
The above directive relates to nickel sensitisation and allergic reactions. Dermatologists believe that sensitisation, contact with items that release nickel can cause an allergic reaction.
The regulations have been designed to firstly reduce sensitisation and, secondly, to reduce allergic reaction in those people already sensitised.
Nickel... and its compounds - Facts:
Body jewellery inserted into the human body during a body Piercing and worn during the healing period or intended to come into prolonged contact with the wound must contain less than 0,05% nickel and where it is present must be homogenous (evenly distributed in the Body Jewellery).
